Public interest?

I don't know why it recently hit me, but I've noticed more and more reality TV shows related to hunting and fishing or more so the lifestyle. We now have Duck Dynasty, River Monsters, the name exscapes me it's bowhunters in a rich town of Conneticut, Top Hooker, Gun Smoke, Top Gun, Etc, and etc. So now the rest of the public has a sudden interest in the outdoor sports? How did they think we hunt and fish all along? I don't mind the interest, but wonder what has now spawned this new curiosity.

Re: Public interest?

Most of those shows have been around for a while. I think a lot of people enjoy watching this lifestyle but are scared of it at the same time. A lot of these types of shows don't really do us many favors with some of the knuckleheads on the shows.

Where have you been?

Man, you got that right! Not many on here realize that, or care.

Re: Public interest?

I watched a little bit of one last night, I believe it was called "chasin tail" ? Had a few guys that were bow hunting in a suburban area.
A woman with a so called deer problem in her yard, and she was afraid of them. She wanted these guys to shoot them, but didn't want any neighbors to know they were hunting.
They assured her no one would know.
Then the guys shoots a doe and it "supposedly" runs to the middle of town and dies in front of everyone.

First off, I believe it was staged, but the important thing is how does that make hunters look as a whole ?????
I didn't watch the whole thing, but shows like that don't do the hunting community any favors.

Chasing Tail
Looks like more of an Anti Hunting Show to Me because in the end it show hunting in a bad light and yes it is mostly staged with the exception of a few real action shots at deer .

Pretty much the same feeling of everyone I have talked to that has seen it. I've only been able to get through about five minutes of it before changing the channel. I don't see it lasting too much longer...but who knows.

Re: Public interest?

The fact that the people are so odd and what they do is so out there is what draws the ratings to provide the shows, it isn't that the public developed an interest in those activities, other than to think them very peculiar.

A real shame that hunting or fishing can be considered that odd that it is interesting.

The movie Hunger Games at least sparked some momentary interest in archery,.

This is true about almost all of these kinds of shows. People that hunt are frequently portrayed as rubes, weirdos and ridgerunners. Wonder what that does for hunting in the eyes of the general non hunting public? Do you realize how many non hunters, when they find out YOU are a hunter, start picturing the cast of "Deliverance" when they think about you? Because their only exposure to hunting and a hunting lifestyle are these stupid shows.

Hunting: 10% skill and 90% location.
