Re: Remember the Duprees

I always liked this version by the Duprees. Patsy Cline does a great version also.

Itís funny until somebody gets hurt, then itís hilarious

I remember them and many others of their day. Back when people made music that made you feel good. Not rap crap that passes for music today.

John S:"I remember them and many others of their day. Back when people made music that made you feel good. Not rap crap that passes for music today."

Geesh, sounds like the establishment reaction to rock and roll and Elvis back in the mid fifties. Talk about things going in circles/cycles.

Heck I can remember Dick Clark introducing the Duprees on Bandstand. Of course about the same time, we had such intellectual milestones in music like: The Purple People Eater, I told the Witch Doctor, and let us not forget Short Shorts.

Re: Remember the Duprees

Yep, and none of those songs talked about killing the man and demeaned women and romanticized the gangster life style. There is a while world of difference between crap aka hip hop and rock and roll and anyone who doesn't see that has blinders on.

Re: Remember the Duprees

In the 50's my mom had a restaraunt in a small western PA town and it was acroos the street from the VFW, in front of the Diamond Cab stand right next to the high school and not too far from the Westinghouse Airbrake Division. I grew up with this music and I love it for all the reasons I mentioned. The best mucic, ever.

Good night Chesty, wherever you are......

Re: Remember the Duprees

Hmmm! Tom Dooley, I Fought The Law, Streets of Laredo, El Paso, Mack the Knife, Stagger Lee, Bad Bad Leroy Brown and several others talked about killing. (I shot the Sheriff)

Now, I don't listen to the rap lyrics because frankly, just shouting rhyme into a microphone is not singing so I ignore it altogether. Then again, I don't like opera either.

FYI the Sheriff got shot in the 70's....

Tom Dooley paid the price for murder, He fought the law.. but the law won, and the posse took care of the guy who shot the cowboy in ElPaso....

Re: Remember the Duprees

Incidentally, the song was a hit for Jo Stafford a decade earlier in 1952.
