Gatlinburgh, Tn

Heading down there in a couple weeks for a few days. Anyone been there? What do you recommend, and what should we stay away from? Restaurants? Nightlife?

Thinking about doin a little bit of hiking, ziplines, and some fishing at Douglas Lake...and hitting up Bass Pro. Thanks in advance!

Re: Gatlinburgh, Tn

Check out Cades Cove Tenn (they have a web site), it is a beautiful little valley not far from Gatlinburgh. A few "old timey" buildings frozen in time. If you get there before dusk there are usually some great bucks feeding in the fields.

Spend some time in the different areas of the Smokey Mt knife works, some very nice craftsmanship on display.

Some nice Mom and Pop places that serve true southern food (ask the locals working in the quick marts), not tourist stuff. My Mrs was born and raised in the south and liked the fixin's in the off the road local places.

There was a good place to pick up cast iron skillets etc between the interestate and Gatlinburgh.

I haven't been there in 6 or 8 yrs so I'm sure there are other great places to visit.

For those who fought for it, Life has a flavor the protected will never know.

Re: Gatlinburgh, Tn

for Cades Cove! We've been to the smokey mtns twice Love it down there! We did alot of driving around in the park and hiking. If you've never been to clingman's dome I highly recommend going up there, especially on a nice clear day. The Park Grill in Gatlinburg has awesome steaks and ribs but it can be pricey.
