birds

has anyone else noticed the decline in birds? i put out two feeders last week and have only seen one bird. im still using the same mix of black oil, striped sunflower seeds, and cracked corn. usually the birds have to take a number to get to the feeders.

We have been discussing this for over a year off and on. I feed black sunflower seeds all year, I have watched the gold finch population go from 15 to 20 a day to too 2 or three, there is no shortage of house finches which are not native birds and they are pigs so I am not going to pay what the Niger costs for them. I used to have a healthy population of Mocking birds, I could not tell you when I last saw one in my yard. I do have tit mice and woodpeckers and Chickadees and Wrens and the occasional Brown Creeper coming in all year long, but something is going on.

This came to me as I set in my tree stand the last couple of years. In some full day sets I didn't see over 2-3 birds.

This summer we did not have even half the birds at my place we used to. And the winter birds are much fewer as well. I've heard a half dozen reason given, none seem right to me. Some blame climate change, I think that's baloney. I do think that all the herbicide, fungicide, chemical fertilizers and pesticides we spray, spread, treat with and then eat could be behind it.

Yes. Bird populations seem to be down. I've noticed it here in mid-state PA.

This was discussed on several threads, including this one:

Saw more blue birds hunting yesterday than I have ever seen around home. I have a lot of birds at my feeder. I hunt in the ANF and at times and never see one tweety bird.

I have no scientific evidence but when I hunted the first week of November, Tioga SF, I only saw a few birds for the entire week.

Itís funny until somebody gets hurt, then itís hilarious

I don't have anything to compare over the last several years, so my observations aren't the most reliable.
Hunting in Michaux SF, I noticed quite a few different breeds of songbirds around me, a couple of blue jays, and a few noisy-as-all-heck pileated woodpeckers. Hunting back home in northern Carbon/southern Luzerne counties, the numbers were not as many.
I didn't fill the feeders yet, but there have been plenty of little birds around the yard all Summer and Fall.

Shoot straight
