Bats

I was delighted to see three bats flying around my (half acre) back yard. I haven't seen that many in at least ten years. Last couple years, it's been only one. Anyone seeing more bats lately?

Well, I like them, but I don't want to live with them, so I don't blame your buddy.

Yes the bats are more plentiful around my house this year and I am going to put up a bat house, Waugh!

Been wanting to build a Bat-Box for some time now. Well, maybe someday. I like watching them almost as much as I like watching them barn swallows.

You can get plans from the PGC to build your own bat boxes. When I was a kid my neighbor had a pond and every evening just before dark the bats would be flying around over the pond catching bugs, we would pick apples off the ground from under an apple tree and throw them up in the air towards the bats and they would follow them until the were just above the ground or the water, we thought it was entertaining.

When you are up to your butt in alligators, it is hard to remember your intent was to drain the swamp. Stay focused!

Since we talking about bats....

The ones in my barn roost just under the peak. I need to get a new roof on but I don't want to chase them out. I was thinking about a bat box but don't know how to get them to start using it so I can go ahead with the roof project. Anybody familiar with bat boxes?
