Kudos To PENNDOT!

Yes, you read that right, and not even being sarcastic.

More specifically, kudos to the PENNDOT Gettysburg Licensing Center. Went there yesterday and again today to get my PA license. My Virginia license expired while I was overseas, and VA would not let me extend it nor renew without providing proof that I was returning there. Since I wasn't, and didn't even know to where at the time, I couldn't do anything about it. I was legal to drive while in Germany and for the first 120 days upon returning because it expired while I was overseas on PCS orders. That didn't help when it came to transferring the license to PA. The rule about expired license is pretty clear, and the supervisor told me that is the one thing they can't get around. So, I had to start from scratch with getting a physical, taking the learner's permit test, and a road test! But she (the supervisor) took care of it all, to include not having me wait in line each time I came back. I was able to get a doctor's appt for this morning, went back to DMV around Noon, passed the knowledge test, immediately took the road test (she had the examiner stop what he was doing to take me out), and was out the door with my license by 14:00!

Shoot straight

Wow. At least Pa allowed me to renew by mail and got a license without a picture. Had to have old license with the new one and than had 60 days once back in the state to apply for and get a license with a picture. I figured VA was the same being also a Commonwealth. Oh well welcome home. Waugh!

Sounds like you were dealing with someone with common sense, someone willing to help someone with special circumstances. That seems to be uncommon when dealing with any form of gov't.

Or mebey she thought you were hot....

Yep, on my first stint in Germany I renewed my PA license twice. Both times they sent me a new license and just used the old picture.

I did ask someone in VA once why I couldn't renew my license, yet I could still vote and still paid state taxes. That's where the email string ended.....
