No Elk or Bear but an encounter of a lifetime for me.

Got back last night from my New Mexico Elk/Bear hunt. It was probably the toughest hunt I have ever been on. I believe the full moon hurt us. We never heard a Bull until the 3rd afternoon. On the 3rd afternoon I was put in a treestand over a waterhole/wallow. It was covered with Elk tracks so I felt good about the spot. After about 2 hours on stand and seeing nothing the woods came alive. All the squirrels started chattering and running up trees and the birds all over the place were screaming. I thought for sure I would have a chance of at a bear. I turned slowly to look behind me a saw a patch of red moving. I at first thought it was a fox until it stepped into the open when I saw what it was. A very large mountain lion. I slowly reached for my phone to get a picture and he saw me move. I figured that's it,he's gone but to my amazement he stood there staring at me. I got him in the viewer and just started snapping pictures then he left as quiet as he came in. Needless to say that was the end of Elk hunting in that area but I was so excited I didn't care. After calming down I took out my range finder because I knew he was close to the stand . Rangefinder said 11 yards. Everyone at the lodge was excited and the outfitter told me it's the first time in 20 years that anybody ever got a picture of a mountain lion at his place. I got 4 great pictures of him, one of the most beautiful animals I have ever seen. The final days of the hunt got a little more active. We started to hear elk and had a couple coming in but could never close the deal. On the last evening I was over another waterhole and had a very nice bull come down the mountain to me but hungup at 75 yds. The wind changed and the bull left. He had been hanging around for about 10 minutes tearing stuff up and he sounded like a truck coming down the mountain but when he winded me I never heard him leave. The guides say an Elk will see you three times, hear you twice but only smell you once. Anyway no Elk or Bear but I call this trip successful.....

I have no idea how to get these pictures out of my phone and don't even want to attempt it. I have made arrangements with a friend to go to a Walmart and make copies because everybody wants them. BUT if I can text them to someone and they can post them on this site for me I will be happy to do that. PM me a message. Thanks

Great pictures Rudy. They are pictures of a lifetime. This shows that you don't have to fill your tag to have a successful hunt. Congrats.

Itís funny until somebody gets hurt, then itís hilarious
