Someone stole my chickens

I bought three egg layer chickens this spring and had them in a coop in my back yard. I went outside around noon to check on them and they were gone. My father said they were there in the mourning when he went to work. There is no sign that it was an animal. I noticed that the ties I used to keep the door to the coop closed had been tempered with. Some sicko stole my chickens.

So I guess foxes can clime fences and raccoons can undo latches. I guess a hawk could have gotten them as well. But Still there is no sign of animal fowl play.

Look at the bright side. Barack would be very proud of you. You spread out the wealth and helped someone with their grocery bill this week.

Re: Someone stole my chickens

It just doesn't make sense. If an animal got them there would be feathers and evidence. We have had animals get them in the past and there was always evidence. The gate was messed with as well. We think my fathers weird Chinese ex girl friend may have done it. There is a large gash in our drive way that is unexplained as well.

Re: Someone stole my chickens

Stealing people's chickens is pretty bad, but honestly NOTHING that I hear anymore suprises me in the least. This country is in a sad, sad state.

I don't think there is anything they can do. We spoke to some of my neighbors who own chickens and they said there has been issues with coyotes and foxes in the past. However, it would be obvious. Also, they disappeared between 8am and 1130am. My father said they were there when he left at 8am and I woke up and went to check on them around 1130am. A hawk could have swooped into the pen and snatched them up one at a time without leaving any evidence. Maybe a fox could have climbed in and got them. However, I think there would be feathers, blood, or at least claw marks in the soft soil. It just doesn't add up. I really think this was some kind of sick joke.

Re: Someone stole my chickens

Maybe the chickens broke out on their own and they're on the lamb now! Like those guys that escaped the prison in New York.
