Gallbaldder Surgery

Anyone have their gallbladder removed? Just wondering how well you did after surgery and if you felt a lot better, of course after recovering... I'm having mine removed on the 23rd.

Re: Gallbaldder Surgery

my wife had hers out. They said 10-14 day recovery time. More like 20-24 for her.

She was totally better after recovery. Get it done!

Re: Gallbaldder Surgery

I had mine removed on April 11. That was about the easiest part of my 2 month hospital stay. I remember going up to the OR and talking to the nurses. I was freezing so they put another blanket on me(nice and warm like it came out of a dryer). Next thing I woke up in the OR afterwards and they kept me for maybe an hour then sent me back to my room. I was a little sore needed a hand getting in + out of bed but no real bad pain. Was walking around later that afternoon. The nurse did give me a pain pill at bedtime "just in case" but I don't think I needed it. I did however have severe cotton mouth - if your hospital has Italian water ice get about 4 of them.

I did have severe pain about a week later and strangely I had the same nurse as after the operation. She gave me pills but they did little she called DR(?) and we went for another MRI. Back at my room the shift changed and the night nurse came in with 2 needles full of morphine but I declined. By morning the pain was diminishing but they sent me for some kind of nuclear pictures anyway, thought I might be leaking inside. They never did find anything.

I got out on May 1st felt great for a couple of days then had another mystery pain this felt like "sidestiches" but it passed by the time my follow up Dr visit although she did give me a script for some type of pain pill but I tore it up.

Have felt pretty good since although it did take me a little time to get my strength back. I did have a visiting nurse for 4 visits and did get yelled at for vacuuming and doing some laundry(I did not grab a pile of wet clothes but rather grabbed handfuls)

Icemole, the best part of the OR is the warm blankets they put over you.. I do believe you could hang beef in the OR's

Re: Gallbaldder Surgery

My daughter had hers out when she was 21. She was not heavy never had kids, just a lot of gallstones. They did her's with a scope. She has 3 small scars and came home the same day. She was operated on around 10 and my wife was bring her home around 4 PM. They would not let her go unless she went to the bathroom.
After the surgery she was not allowed to lift over 8 or 10 lbs for a few weeks.
Everyone does not get the scope.
Good Luck

Re: Gallbaldder Surgery

When I had my kidney removed on Dec 18th they saw that mine needed to come out so they they removed it, kind of 2 surgeries for the price of one, dont believe that for a minute, they called in another surgeon for the gall bladder, at least I only had to undergo the one surgery for both organs.....

Re: Gallbaldder Surgery

I've been very sick since October. Could not eat anything without getting sick. It was worse from Oct-January. I was scoped and had no ulcers but needed my esophagus stretched because I felt like I was swallowing around a rock in my throat since Oct. I did all the test and my gallbladder was not working well. Dr still wanted to wait and see how I was. Now into July and I still get sick when I eat and it's finally coming out.

Not to mention, Monday at 2am, I was blessed with a kidney stone out of no where while at work by myself. OMG. I spent early Monday morning on dilaudid in the ER and Monday evening Tuesday morning in the ER begging for more but got 1 shot because they said I had too much the night before. I was begging God to take the pain away and to forgive me for all the terrible things I had ever accomplished in my life. Felt like I was being punished... Ugh.....

Re: Gallbaldder Surgery

oooh, kidney stone. just had one a couple months ago, if i hadn't had an inkling thats what it was i'd have thought i was dying. my wife and daughter had them so i was kinda' familiar with the symptoms. mine came out in 4 hours, and after the morphene i had no pain, but that hour drive to the hospital was the longest hour of my life.

good luck on your surgery, hope you're back on your feet soon!
