(WKTV) - Two people face charges after allegedly stealing a snow blower, Utica NY police said.
John Kaminski, 50, of Genesee Street is charged with petit larceny, criminal possession of stolen property, obstructing governmental administration and several traffic summons.
Nicole Williamson, 26, of Barrington Road in Oneida is charged with two counts of petit larceny and criminal possession of a controlled substance.
According to authorities, police were patrolling Columbia Street on Wednesday night when an officer noticed a new snow blower in the back of a pickup truck. The blower was not secured, and when the truck turned, the snow blower bounced around. The officer became concerned about safety and was suspicious the snow blower may be stolen, as they are common targets for thieves.
The truck was stopped and police interviewed the driver, who said he bought the snow blower from a man for $50. Police learned the passenger had two warrants, and while taking her into custody, officers found 3.8 grams of a substance that field tested positive for methamphetamine. The driver became nervous and started his vehicle and fled. When he did, the snow blower fell out of the truck.
Officers went to Lowe's and after surveillance was reviewed, officers found someone in a truck backed up to the store and stole the snow blower from outside. Kaminski was contacted through parole and turned himself in.
