So I'm taking my wife for a night away from the kids in Philly next week. Being a transplanted Burgh guy living in the Lehigh Valley I'm not familiar at all with down town. I've lived here for years but much like many of us I am a country boy and avoid the city, all cities, at all costs. My wife has a little city girl in here at times so I thought it would be nice to just get a room and explore things. Its going to end up being a food and drink day which is what we want anyhow.
I booked us a room down at Penns Landing and we're basically planning a food and drink night and day. Sounds great to me! I've made a reservation at Ralphs Italian Resturant that evening and then we would like to hit a few bars/lounges before maybe hitting Jims for cheese steaks late night. The next morning I'm still looking for breakfast options. I'm going to find a bakery or something that we can sit down in and have a cup or two of coffee before headed back to get ready for the day. Kind of first thing in the morning thing. Planning to hit the Reading Terminal Market for lunch. It's place I've heard about and wanted to check out.
So anyhow, for you philly guys. Can you suggest any chill places to hang out and have some drinks on Tuesday night. We're definintly blue jeans and button down people so we dont like super fancy. Laid back is so much better.
Any thoughts on a place to eat breakfast? and thoughts on the dinner location (Ralphs)? I'm totally picking brains here and totally open to what you guys thing. I know nothing and really wanna show her a fun time as well as a little experience of Philly. Thanks for thinking!!
You hit a home run with Ralph's. Nice place, good food. You might see Michael Corleone when your there.
You might want to check out the action on South street for bars or hit Finnegans Wake at 3rd and Spring Garden sts. (It's a bar, not a funeral )
Penrose diner for breakfast. 2016 Penrose ave.
If you're driving and you use a parking meter make sure not to let the time expire. The PPA is relentless and issues tickets about 10 seconds after the meter hits 0. I usually use a parking lot. More than a meter but cheaper than a ticket.
BTW, The parking is sparse around Ralph's. They have valet parking and it might be worth it to use it.
Itís funny until somebody gets hurt, then itís hilarious
Johns roast pork has best cheesesteaks, why don't you try and hit the constitution center, not a bad area to kill some time. Finnegan Wake is a nice bar, I am great friends with the owner, South Street is an adventure lots of bars to hit, one real good place to stop in is Mothers kitchen I think it's called, I'll get back to u on that
