Handgun Permitting

Hi everyone! I was recently gifted a Taurus Judge .45/410 and plan to use it for hunting and target shooting. For these purposes, would I need a LTCF or only a Sportsman's Permit, or both? My thought is LTCF because of target shooting so I can drive it to the range. Please help me understand the permitting laws so I can be covered.

Re: Handgun Permitting

If you get the LTCF you will be covered under all legal purposes to carry a handgun. Including hunting and trips to the range.

Re: Handgun Permitting

To have your loaded gun wearing it concealed or transporting in a vehicle (loaded) you need your LTCF. Some one will chime in here but as far as I know anyone that can buy a gun can transport it unloaded in a case to the range, or you may need the sportsman permit for that. Since open carry loaded on foot is legal here without a permit (like hunting or walking down the street) I'm not sure where the sportsman one fits in, and there are open carry restrictions. But those guys will be here shortly.

Oh yeah, I'd just get the LTCF which is not hard. If your background is clean you're good to go with some exceptions like gov. bldgs. etc.

Re: Handgun Permitting

So permits are only needed for transporting in a vehicle. The Sportsman's is only good while driving to a hunting or fishing spot and the LTCF allows you to drive anywhere and conceal? Am I missing any other reasons you need a permit or privileges they provide.

Re: Handgun Permitting

The Game commission doesn't require anything to hunt with a legal handgun.
