870 problems

has anyone been haveing trouble with 870s? my father had one and we started doing trap shooting and the shells would get jammed or not eject and he could barely get the pump down some of the time so he got rid of it got another gun then got rid of that one for another 870 i have been waterfowl hunting (30s-40s sometimes rainy) with it lately no problem but today went out for trap (25 degrees) and its doing the same thing the other 870 did. wondering if anyone else had any problems like this

Re: 870 problems

It might be the shells, as opposed to the gun. You could also have a rough chamber, and the cases are sticking once they expand a tad after firing.

I think I'm an alright guy, I think I'm alright

Re: 870 problems

I've had one for 20+ years and have never had an issue. But the Remington Arms of today is not the same company as years ago.

Re: 870 problems

He or you shooting reloads? Sounds like improperly resized shells.

Re: 870 problems

Give the gun a good thorough cleaning removing the barrel slide releases bolt assembly and trigger housings

Check the slide release/stop levers and make sure they are aligned properly and not bent

Clean & lube!!

Almost sounds like the slide the bolt sits on top of has misaligned from the action bars on the forestock

Re: 870 problems

Just clean it. 99% of the problems with a Remington 870 or 1100 is it being dirty. Under that category is a loose pellet that jammed up somewhere..

Re: 870 problems

Todays 870s are night and day different from the old ones. I have had to clean up a few chambers with FINE steel wool and a drill. Cleans them up nice.
