Looking to buy new shotgun

Hey everyone, i have been searching around for a semi automatic shotgun to purchase. I have been looking closely at the Remington Versa Max Sportsman, and the Winchester SX3. I am seeing mixed reviews about both everywhere. Which do you guys prefer and why? Or is there any other autoloading shotgun you would recommend. Only looking to spend 1000 or a little over.

Re: Looking to buy new shotgun

I have the Super X3 (and an X2).

Absolutely NOTHING bad to say about either of them.

I have heard....... HEARD......... if you put an overly squishy recoil pad on an X3 it can short-shuck. Kinda like limp wristing an auto pistol. But I don't really know why anyone would need a squishy pad on a softie gas gun like the X3.

Both the 2 and the 3 will cycle ANYTHING from a 7/8 oz. low brass to the heaviest 3 1/2 inchers without a hiccup and no O-rings or pistons to monkey with.

I have not shot a Versa Max. No need.

Re: Looking to buy new shotgun

I know they are over your limit but I shoot a Benelli SBE 2 and my dad shoots a Beretta Xtrema II. Both are great guns.
The most important thing is that the gun "fits" you well.

Re: Looking to buy new shotgun

I shot a Browning Gold for a long time, and then I bought a Benelli Vinci last year...........I like and shoot both of them equally well, but the Vinci is a lot nicer to carry around, it weighs a lot less than the Gold, and does not require near as much maintenance.........

FWIW I picked the Vinci up used at Grice's for under $1000........and it looked like it was hardly used....

Also Grices has some good deals on Winchesters and Brownings in their ding and dent section, as well as used section..............

both of mine are 3" guns, as I see no need for a 3.5" 12 gauge.....

Re: Looking to buy new shotgun

Add me to the list for the SX3. I went shopping for Benelli's, but then looked at the SX3. Frankly, It was something of an impulse based on price and incentives (Rebate was like 200). I have not regretted it for a moment. It is a great shotgun and has cycled everything (EVERYTHING!!!). Never a hiccup. I liked it so much I bought a second one in the MODB camo on here. I've hunted in ice with my nephew and his Benelli Super 90. The Winnie kept shooting when his started to cycle slow and jam. I know Benelli is a seriously great gun, but you wont go wrong with the Winchester. SX3 all the way.
