.22 recommendations...

i only own one handgun, a GP100. Im looking to buy a .22 or a .22 magnum. Im only going to use it for plinking. I would prefer a semi auto. I have shot a Ruger MarkII and liked that. Any input would be appreciated, remember im no pro when it comes to handguns. I just want to know where to start looking.

The Ruger MK II is a trusty piece and you can find them for $200-250 used. I'm not a big fan of the newer polycarbonate framed models and prefer the older versions. Also, they are quite accurate pistols.

My two cents would be for a Ruger have 5 of them and 4 daughters that have all learned on one.

The Ruger is a fine pistol. Don't buy a 22 mag to plink with. Mag ammo is expensive.

Re: .22 recommendations...

the mark II is a nice little gun but a bugger to break down and clean. i have had one for 30 years and dread taking it apart. i'd look at the GSG 1911's if i was you. they go for about $325 new and are mechanically the same as a full sized 1911 and break down very easy for cleaning. thats a big factor to me when choosing a 22 because they are a very dirty round to shoot.
