...... either a Ruger Super Redhawk or Tarus Raging Bull in 44 Mag to carry on bear drives. Carrying a rifle through the swamps we drive simply isn't feasible. Can't find any in my local shops. Can anyone give any input on either one or possible prices new? Looking for stainless, Tarus 6.5" barrel and Ruger 7.5" barrel.
i bought a s&w 29-8 mountain gun with 4" barrel. i carry it in a diamond d chest holster. its a great gun and light. it bucks pretty good but not too bad. redhawks and raging bulls are big, heavy guns.
I've been the very happy and satisfied owner of a 9 1/2" Ruger Super Redhawk for about 20 years. Love it!! Like all Ruger handguns, it is built like a tank. My SRH wears a scope, so I only carry it when purely handgun hunting.
If you want the DA, you could get one and not worry about putting on a scope. However, earlier this year I picked up a 7 1/2" Ruger Super Blackhawk which will not be scoped and is intended to be carried when I am hunting with a rifle.
If you are refering to a shotgun with no shoulder stock and a pistol grip I can't think of a worse firearm for hunting. Aiming a shotgun shooting slugs without a shoulder stock is a good way to have a flat nose and miss the target.
When you are up to your butt in alligators, it is hard to remember your intent was to drain the swamp. Stay focused!
I vote for the Ruger Super Black Hawk. Nothing wrong with a used one, you should be able to stay under $500 out the door. I like the single action for hunting, it forces you to slow down and concentrate, MHO.
