shortening shotgun barrell

Has any one ever docked the barrell of a shotgun? I want to take the choke off of a modified barrel. I've been told that either cutting it off with a hacksaw or useing a pipe cutter and deburring it works. I will be keeping the barrell about 19 inches. thoughts?

You could have it honed.

The deer didn't disappear.... the 250,000 guys who used to walk around and make the deer move did.

Re: shortening shotgun barrell

When you cut off the choke you are going to be left with a cylinder bore. You are not going to get a very good pattern out of it.

Re: shortening shotgun barrell

Be carefull you may change the point of the patterns impact. I did this years ago with a model 37 that had a full choke and a 30" barel. I wanted to use it for grouse and rabbits in the thick stuff so cylinder was what I was looking for. Cut it down to 26" and it patterned 3 feet low. Just something to think about.

It will also need to be recrowned. If not it will probably not hit to point of aim.
