Rem 870 Slug with Nikon Omega Scope group problem

Brand new gun and scope combination, used Lightfields 2 3/4" hybrid exp 1 1/4 oz 546 grain shell.

The gun initially shot 24" low and 12" RT, made several adjustments( (3 group rounds and 4" adj until we where close) and was 2" high at the bull at 50yds. We shot 3 shells at 100yds all within 3 1/2 of the bull. Then the 4th, 5th shot at 100 yds did not hit paper 12" x 12" square. Back to 50 yd and we are shooting 18" low and rt.

I believe it is in the scope, but I am not exactly sure why or how?
Two different shooters off a fixed bench with a good fully adjustable rest to take the human error fact away with the same results.
Any ideas what could be going wrong? The scope was mounted at Gander Mtn.

I would blame/look to the rings or base before blaming the scope

P.S. The monkey really freaks DennyF out

I would bet mount/rings also. Slug guns beat the snot out of mounts.

Don't let our differences defeat us.

i also say , ring , base, alot of recoil there , mounts should be top of the line when shooting, i always use blue loc tight on screws,

Re: Rem 870 Slug with Nikon Omega Scope group problem

Once the shot groups where not grouping, I looked at the scope mounts and did not find anything loose. Should I disassemble and start from scratch again ????

Re: Rem 870 Slug with Nikon Omega Scope group problem

How much time did you allow bet. shots?
On hot, humid days,a heated barrel will definitely affect impact.
Not to be a wiseguy, but was this firearm boresited?
Also, you spent a lot of time and ammo:
"The gun initially shot 24" low and 12" RT, made several adjustments( (3 group rounds and 4" adj until we where close) and was 2" high at the bull at 50yds."

Might want to consider more radical adjustments as opposed to "walking in" the shots.

I would start from scratch again. Make sure to torque down to the proper in/lbs. Also put a piece of blue painters tape in front of the front ring and shoot a group of 3. Check the tape to see if the scope moved or not.

Were you shooting from a lead sled by chance??? I seen slug guns shot out of lead sleds destroy even good scopes. All that massive recoil has to go somewhere. Normally your shoulder gradually slows the gun down, absorbing the shock. But them lead sleds are like putting the gun against a brick wall and pulling the trigger, all the shock goes into the action and the scope.
