Savage 212 - Recoil - Scope Mounts ?

Looking to get a savage 212 and was wondering what scope/rings I should pick up. Just concerned about the recoil interfering with the zero.

I know I can get the same performance out of the 20 gauge with less felt recoil, but the guns main target will be bear. While it may not be NEEDED, I will have more peace of mind shooting a slightly larger projectile.

Any recommendations?

My new favorite is a Trijicon 1x4 with the green triangle, very fast finding the target. I have used them on dangerous game rifles that can really recoil with out issues.

If you want to hold weight down and can live without magnification the Doctor Optic or Trijicon RMS sight.

Rings, look at the Burris Signature Zee ring, hold on to the scope better than many without marking up the scope tube

Re: Savage 212 - Recoil - Scope Mounts ?

For what it's worth about 9-10 years ago I picked up a Mossberg 500 combo gun. I got the combo because it wasn't much more money than the regular gun, and a freind was always trying to get me to go to the special regs areas.

I just wanted to try it out so I mounted the cheap 4x32 Bushnell sportsview I had gotten for my 22. I mounted it with cheap $7 Tasco rings I picked up at Wal-Mart. I bought a handfull of loads to try, and figured if I broke the scope or the mounts I would simply upgrade.

That set up is still on the gun, and I average about a box of slugs a year. It hasn't failed me yet. The first year I had it I shot around 50-60 rounds through it to see what it liked.
