Saiga 12 and 20

Anybody own any of these or know anything about them. I've never ran one before and a friend of mine works with a dude who wants to sale one. He told his buddy he'd ask me if I wanted it.

Two questions: what choke barrels are they, I read somewhere that they are full choke and thats what this dude is saying it is. And how reliable ar they?

Re: Saiga 12 and 20

I looked 1 over at a recent gun show.
it is a semi auto with a 19" barrel,handles 2 3/4 and 3" shells and a full choke.
I got the sales "pitch" from the dealer but for almost $600 I passed on it.
sorry,I do NOT know anything else about them or know anyone that has one to give a recommendation and until I do see for myself how good or bad they are I will not own one. hope this helps you.

I have the Saiaga 12 for a combat shot gun I don't think it can be beat. You can buy different chokes for it.

Re: Saiga 12 and 20

I've read about them but I couldn't find out the reliability. I know its based on the traditional AK which is really reliable, I didn't know if they were considerd like them. Oh well I snoozed to long and he sold it already. He was asking $600.00 for it as well. Thats why I was hesitating. I could buy two Mossberg 500 HD's for that price brand new.........interesting though. I almost bought it. Now I'm left wondering if I should have.

Finley, how does yours pattern? I'm interested in both ends of the spectrum--fully choked and up close cylinder work. Have you had the chance to test any or both? Thanks!

Re: Saiga 12 and 20

I got mine threaded internal for Rem chokes, this gun is more of a tactical weapon in my oppinion. I thought some day I would hunt with it but probably never will. These guns are primarily used by Russian Special Forces they ship them with a sporter stock instead of the pistol grip so it can be imported. As far as low brass I heard some don't shoot it well, in regards to slugs and buckshot totally reliable that's what it's made for. For a home defense weapon it doesn't get any better IMO, a 12 round mag full of buckshot is as nasty as it gets and you can buy a 20 round drum. Also there are many after market pistol grip stocks and rails. If you are looking for a hunting semi I would buy a gun made for that application. The $600 tag is a little steep for a used one when you can buy a new for not a whole lot more that that.

Re: Saiga 12 and 20

Yeah the hunting(yotes with #4 buckshot) I want to do with it sounds like it would be great at. It would be dual use yotes and HD. Is $600.00 a going price?

Re: Saiga 12 and 20

I saw them new for $665 recently, six months ago when the ATF was talking about banning them the supply was very low they were going for as much as $900. I have a Burris Fastfire 2 on mine with a
tritium front sight it would work well for coyotes.
