best value 1911

I am looking at getting a GI type 1911. I don't want to spend crazy money on this gun. It gonna be for fun and not life death stuff...lol I also don't want to buy a hunk of junk. I was looking hard at Rock Island something or other 1911. It looked pretty nice and the $$ was very nice. What ya all think?

Re: best value 1911

I have a Rock Island 1911A1. It cost about $450 and I've never had a problem with mine.

Re: best value 1911

Kahr and Remington make GI versions that are competitive in price with RIA.

Best yet, they are made where a 1911 should be made. IN the USA.

The deer didn't disappear.... the 250,000 guys who used to walk around and make the deer move did.

Re: best value 1911

I bought a kahr last year. Great gun, except for the cheap plastic grip, but they are easily changed. I paid between 450 and 475 can't remember exactly.

I just checked the Kahr website and I could not find a 1911.

Re: best value 1911

Yep. Under Auto Ordnance. Not the "old" Auto Ordnance. Now made by Kahr and better. I have one of the 1911A1's as pictured on the link above and it's a great 1911 for the price. No malfunctions of any kind, but then I'm only shoot'n 230 gr. Hardball and 230 gr. lead RN's out of mine. I do get a 45 case thrown at my forehead once in a while.

Re: best value 1911

OK, I knew Kahr bought Auto Ordinance but I didn't put it together.
