Blast from the past

Could you imagine the cops toting this kind of weaponry these days?

Colt Official Police Special 38 - 6

Re: Blast from the past

I have one very similar to that...It was a police trade-in originally in 38 S&W, with the 38 S&W roll marks stamped out and re-done in 38 Special...They were selling them from JSC for $99 almost 20 years ago..Love mine, it's as light as a feather and handy!..Keep it loaded with 158 gr. hollow points as a home defense gun, but occasionally take it out in the back yard and shoot it! And above all...it's a Colt!

Re: Blast from the past

Looks like something out of a James Cagney movie....LOL.
I am not sure what is up with the funky color though...can't say I ever saw blueing wear off so evenly. It seems fully functional though I would probably be wincing for the first 6 rounds....LOL.

Thats Barney Fife's shootin' Iron ! They really do shoot good, and you can pick them up very reasonable today.

Re: Blast from the past

Beautiful weapon with lots of class. I wonder if the stuff being cranked out today will last as long as this one has and have the amount of "class" this old timer does?

Good night Chesty, wherever you are......

Re: Blast from the past

I have two, thanks Dad!

The newer one [1927] has the same wood stocks but a blued finish. It is the pretty one!

The old one [1910] dad bought from a retiring butcher who kept it in wrapped in a rag in the glovebox of his delivery truck. The finsh is worn and dull and it has the bakelite grips.

Both are marked w/ stamps from a PD & both are in 38 special.

The older one may be ugly, but it shoots just fine for being over 100 years old!

I take it to camp alot.

4th Generation @ Kamp.

3D - There are STILL a few deer left! You need to pry them out of the developments!

Re: Blast from the past

After closer inspection it's...Colt Official Police 38
No special involved....now the next dilemma....do they make 38 ammo anymore?

I know 38 is different than 38 special.
