Good factory deer load for S&W 629?

What is a good factory load for deer out of a S&W 629?

You just shot an unarmed man. Well he should have armed himself!!! Clint Eastwood.

Re: Good factory deer load for S&W 629?

when i bought my super blackhawk in 1994,i bought 4 boxes of american eagle 240 grn hollow points. that was pretty good ammo.its still made today. got tired of buying ammo for my 44. had reloading press and dies for my rifle, so i bought dies for my 44. loading your own is cheaper than buying them.

I've killed deer with my 6" M629 using 200gr XTPs over 22 grains of 2400. The Hornady factory 200gr XTP ammo, is pretty much identical to my reloads.

They are a bit pricey, running around $17 per box of 20.

X2 on the reloading.....could not afford to practice if I didn't. I don't hunt with factory loads but do use reloads with 240 grain hard cast over 21 grains of 2400 in my 44 Mag. Use 7.5 grains of Unique with a 240 hard cast or XTP's in my 44 Specials.....amazingly accurate load. Good luck with your search. (that's half the fun)

FYI.....note of caution....both of these loads are in Ruger Blackhawks.

If I'm not hunting or fishing with the kids....I'm somewhere on a Judo mat.
