Marlin Over/Under 12 guage Shotgun question

Hey Guys - I have my grandfathers Marlin 12 gauge over/under double barrel. I love this gun...for multiple reasons.
#1 - It was my grandfathers, and #2 - it is so light to carry rabbit and bird hunting. The only problem is that the saftey sticks and is hard to shift into the fire mode quickly. I have oiled it, but no change. I am not a gun smith and am a bit skeptical to rip it all apart, and too cheap to take it to a gun smith. Maybe it wouldn't be that hard to rip apart or maybe it wouldn't be that expensive to take in. Any thoughts? The saftey is located on the back of the gun just below the opening lever. It is thumb actuated.
Any help?

It's always a good day in the woods.

It shouldn't be hard to take the action apart to get to the safety. If its a double trigger model, the safety is probably a simple rocker type (kid of like a teeter-totter) its probably gunked up and needs a good cleaning. Oiling it if its dirty just compounds the problem. Remove the barrels and IIRC you remove the screws holding the trigger guard and trigger assembly to remove the works. The safety should be part of the trigger assembly.

A Marlin model 90 is a good and collectable gun. Be careful on your dissassemby, it should be just a simple cleaning. Use your best screwdrivers, not a cheapo that may mar the screwheads.

To get to the trigger assembly and the tang safety you must remove the buttstock by removing the long screw that goes down the legnth of the buttstock.
