I only have 1 .44mag gun, so it's my favorite. It is an Interarms Virginian Dragoon Silhouette with a 10" barrel. With it's long sight radius I carry it alone. Where I normally hunt deer I don't need a rifle because of short visual distances, saves on lugging around extra weight.
If you have to track your game, then you aren't using a big enuff gun.
My favorite barrel length is either 5", or 6". With 5" being the preferred if available. There is a reason why there are several 5-1/2" model firearms available.
The reason is simple. Carrying. That length is perfect for a hip holster, which is what most hunters use. When you go longer the barrel is constantly moving around with the inside of your leg. And getting hung up on other things. I have never noticed any real accuracy differences between a 6", and a 7-1/2" barrel. To get a real difference you need to step up to a 10" barrel. That is why all my Contender's have 10" barrels. If you compare them to a 6" revolver they are basically the same overall length, and carry similarly on the hip. Tom.
My Freedoom Arms Premier with 7.5" barrel.Unbelievable accuracy.Came with 25 yd target that was one hole for 5 shots. Will i ever do this,NO but at least if i miss i know it's not the gun.Old German saying, why did i buy it,"Just For Nice" LOL.
