870 Express (choke)?

I have a Remington 870 Express 12 gauge. I looked on the gun and it doesn't say what kind of choke the barrel is and I'm wondering if I can hunt pheasants with it.

Re: 870 Express (choke)?

It probably has screw in chokes, you will need to remove the choke tube to see what choke it is. They usually come with a modified choke, which would be fine for pheasant hunting.

Re: 870 Express (choke)?

Not trying to be funny, but is there a choke in it , what I'm asking is, can you change the chokes on this shotgun's barrel?

If not, look around near the receiver end, maybe beneath the forend.

If nothing presents itself, use a micrometer to measure inside dia. and compare to size charts for 12 guages.

good luck

no matter what choke it has, it will be fine for pheasants. some chokes are just better then others for different game.

Re: 870 Express (choke)?

Try a dime. If the dime fits snug it will be a modified. If the dime doesn't quite fit it will be full.

Re: 870 Express (choke)?

Thanks. I bought a choke for turkey hunting. I had a chance to look around the internet today, and the way I read it, the 870 Express comes as a modified choke.

Or...you could unscrew the choke and look...
