choke tube for # 4 buck

just wondering if anyone has any input on the choke tube to use with #4 buckshot. Currently I am using a modified. Tried full and extra full but modified seems to pattern best for me. I would like a little better pattern but can't seem to find the right choke. Any thoughts will help.

Re: choke tube for # 4 buck

Buckshot works best through an open choke....Origionally designed to be fired through a Cylinder Bore.

With the screw in chokes, I would figure that either improved cylinder or light-modified would work for you

I recall reading that for deer hunting with buckshot a modified choke is preferred.

Your on the right track. You have to use different chokes until you find the right one. It can get expensive.

Thanks for the input guys. I just came across an improved cylinder choke that I am going to try. But for now I am sticking with the modified.

Re: choke tube for # 4 buck

I have shot #4 buck through my SBE II with a .670 ed turkey choke and got amazing results while my 835 likes a slightly more open constriction to bore diameter choke in the .690 range. It all depends on your gun and what load/choke it likes.

Re: choke tube for # 4 buck

Most of the guys in my group use #4 buck or Dead Coyote shells while running yotes with hounds. The majority of us use either a full choke or the Carlson's Dead Coyote Choke. I've read alot about how larger shot doesn't pattern well out of tight chokes but I've achieved great patterns with them.

Re: choke tube for # 4 buck

I tried a modified, full and extra full out of my 870. I got the best pattern out of the full choke. Then I bought a Carlson's Dead Coyote choke tube, and I haven't had a chance to pattern it yet.
