Doe in 2B. One in the Early Muzzleloader
Senior season and a second on Monday. Both with my S&W 329PD w/Leupold Deltapoint.

I am going to give it a go for the very first time ever on Saturday, when doe comes in for 2C.

I inherited a Ruger Blackhawk .357 Mag with a 6-inch barrel. Open sights. Since my father in law passed, never thought much about this gun until last Friday. I had fired it a few times but took it out to let a few rip. I am good to archery-like distances, so I will keep it to that 35 yards or closer. I got a buck in archery, so I am not hurting for venison.

Excited for it, never got a late season deer, and obviously never one with a handgun. So those are on my "goals" list and perfect chance for using a doe tag. And it's a chance to take Larry, my late father-in-law, out hunting. He would've liked that. Couple years back I got a small buck with the 7mm Rem Mag Weatherby he left me, and that was a fine hunt and some fine jerky. With me alive and him in spirit, if we can connect with one, it would be sweet indeed!

I've only been out twice due to back/sciatica issues.

Hunted some thick stuff on the first day with my Super Blackhawk .44 Magnum. Nothing seen or heard.

Hunted a different spot the other day with my T/C Contender in 7-30 Waters. Heard a shot across the road behind me, but nothing seen.

I am not much for taking pictures. I got a doe with my 44 Mag on Wednesday. My daughter one upped me by getting her first deer so that was even more exciting.

Now your going to wonder why you ever carried that big heavy rifle into the woods. Very exciting taking that doe with your 44, wasn't it. Warning handgun hunting is addictive.

On my next doe tag to fill outings I will be bringing along this handgun!! I will also have my .54 long rifle, but if the opportunity presents itself....the pistol will be fired first!! (I built this from "scratch" with only the barrel channel and RR hole pre-cut\pre-drilled. Far from perfect but very accurate to 50 yards!!)

Ihmsa, yes I have done it a few times. I really enjoy handgun hunting. My son is getting into it as well. He has finished off a few of his deer with hiss 44.

Steeltrap. That is a neat looking flintlock pistol. 50 yards is good. How long is that barrel?

I have thought a lot about buying one but just haven’t done it. I guess I’m having trouble justifying the purchase.
