Slug Compatability

I own an 870 express. Not a rifled slug barrel, just the smooth bore with a threaded end for the different choke tubes. Am I able to shoot slugs from this barrel? If so, do I have to remove the choke tube? Also, I own a single shot 840 shotgun. Any reason to not shoot slugs from this barrel?

Re: Slug Compatability

Sure, you can shoot slugs from a smooth bore but I wouldn't waste my money shooting expensive sabots. Buy some rifled slugs which are designed to be used in smooth bore barrels. If you want to try a sabot, you can buy a rifled choke tube but to really reap the full benefit of a sabot, a fully rifled barrel is best.

Don't EVER shoot your gun w/o some kind of choke tube because you will destroy the threaded end.

What he said.

Use either the improved cylinder or mod choke. I'm thinking that maybe that gun only came with a mod choke. It will work OK.
