Question What .357 bullet do you use for deer?

I'm venturing into the world of handgun hunting so for starters just wondering what bullet the experienced .357 hunters are using.

The kind that shoots a .44mag haha. I'm only half kidding. I carried a .357 for hunting once. I think I had it loaded with 158gr Federal Fusions, never shot anything with it. I'd look at some of the buffalo bore ammo I hear it's pretty good.

Any 158 gr or heavier semi jacketed FLAT point. And please keep your shots realistic, like, within bow range.
I myself use my own cast bullets and a very stiff charge of h110.

I once took a doe with 125gr Remington factory loads. I was using a Ruger Security-Six with 4 inch barrel. The doe was at 15 yards. I was in a treestand. Shot placement was above the shoulder angled down thru. I don't think there was an exit. Doe dropped in her tracks and expired quickly. I watched her feeding behind me for several minutes. I decided, if I ever wanted to take a doe with a pistol, this was my chance. At the shot, I watched a large set of antlers bounding away over the briars. I didnt even know he was there. I knew there was a good buck using the area but thought I messed my chances up after shooting the doe. However, the next day I took the buck with the rifle from the same treestand.

I suggest a good 158 gr flat pont or hollow point. I took a doe at about 70 yards with mine using 125 gr Rem hollow points. One shot and she only went about 75 yards but the damage done was minimal but did get both lungs.

I've never shot one with a 357, but when I hunted I loaded up heavy - going with Remington's 180 JHP based on two factors:

1) I read an article some time ago in Handloader discussing heavy 357 revolver bullets on deer. For the life of me I can't find it at the moment, but it was probably written by Brian Pearce.
2) I shoot DAO, and usually limit my shots to 50 yards and since I hunt pretty much exclusively from tree stands in woods, I don't get allot of long shots anyway.

In general, I would go heavier rather than lighter - but's that's me.

Only shot one w .357..........Hornady Leverevolution ammo.
Shot great in the old rig.
Where I hit him, anything would have worked (facing away, so spined in the neck).
Have not gone back out handgunning since, maybe get more data on that ammo next year LOL

Guy did euro mount for me.............bullet was up in the nose

Some bone fell away.....where bullet bounced off (on the inside). Stopped way up front.

Like to double lung something inside 50 yds and see what that same bullet does.
