Slug Gun

Looking at buying a 20 gauge slug gun. I use savage rifles and like them and seen they make a bolt action slug gun. How does the savage bolt action compare to the remington and mossberg pump guns? Are they worth the extra coin that they cost?

You can't bag a big one if your not out tryin

The Savage 220 is one sweet gun. Light, well balanced, very accurate, excellent trigger. Pump guns can't come close. The 220 is essentially a rife that shoots shotgun slugs, only drawback is don't expert the action to cycle as smooth as a rifle, it doesn't, but is adequate and improves with use. Unless your priority is rapid fire power, get the 220, you won't regret it.

I had an 870 slug a 12 gauge slug barrel for my encore. I have a savage 220 and there is NO comparison! Yes the 220 with the accutrigger is a shooter. To me it is worth the money.

Another 220 vote. I have some 3 shot groups with all holes touching. In fact I get upset when they are not touching. The only downside is the cost of Remington Accutips. I buy as much as I can when I get a deal.

Another vote for the 220.
The only down side is getting ammo off the shelf.
If you order it on-line then you may not have that much of a problem.

You would think with this guns popularity that stores that sell the gun like Dicks and Cabela's would stock a hefty amount but they don't and it is not like a seasonal thing.

Great gun, once you find out if it likes the 3" or the 2 3/4" buy a lot when you can or get a deal on some.

Don't chinch on the scope, I have the Leupold on my sons gun and its a great set up.

Does anyone own the Savage in the 212 (12 gauge) version? I'm interested in the reviews on that.

YMMV.....I have a 220, never could make it shoot, gave up & it sits in the corner unused & unloved. Current slug gun is a 870 with a pinned rifled barrel that will shoot into a coffee mug at 100 yards on a calm day

What were you shooting out of it? I tried some Foster slugs out of mine and they were all over the place but it shoots Remington and Federal saboted slugs great. Even the Hornady SST which I don't like shoots -3" groups in mine.

Another vote for the 220 with accutips. The last slug gun you'll ever have to buy.
