The 410 shotgun

I own and have owned many types of firearms but have never owned a 410. My dad wasn't into hunting but he did have a single barrel 12ga Iver Johnson shotgun that i started with.
Alot of my classmates back then were talking about there 410's. Well here lately i've been thinking about getting a 410 double, don't need it but wouldn't mind having one.
Do you have a 410? Did you start with a 410? Any hunting with it?

Re: The 410 shotgun

My father had one when I was a kid I used it once before he got rid of it it was a side by side double barel . It was a nice lite weight gun . He used it for rabbit and tree rat hunting . If I where to get another shot gun I think I might get a 410 just for how lite they are. I like to think you really do not need an excuse to get another gun as long as you will use it .

Re: The 410 shotgun

Marlin makes a nice lever action 410 slug gun. I'm hearing it's a great deer gun. Pricey though.

I see said the Blind Carpenter to his Deaf Helper as he picked up his Hammer and Saw!

Re: The 410 shotgun

I do most all of my rabbit hunting with a 410, either a double or pump. I didn't start hunting with them; never owned one till I was in my early 50's.

Re: The 410 shotgun

I hunted with a .410 double many years ago. If I could run across one that wasn't too expensive would have another. Guess me and my 20 ga will be doing my hunting!

Re: The 410 shotgun

i started out with a single shot bolt action .410 that uses 2 1/2 shells...took lots of squirrels with it, still have it, shells are harder to find.

graduated to a 16 gauge mossberg 500 when i was 13 still have and use that one too.

a .410 double would be nice. my son wants a double barrel 12 but i have to find a good used one in the $150.00 range
gonna take some time but i think i can do it.

Re: The 410 shotgun

got my first squirrels with a win 42. i hunted my first couple years with a mossberg bolt 410 with a clip. i want to find a reasonble win 42 one of these days to small game hunt with. shells are expensive though. always have been. thats why my dad got me a borrowed 20 gauge to use when i was a kid until i grew into the win model 12.

Re: The 410 shotgun

Yessir! Began with a single shot Savage .410 my dad gave me for rabbits and skwerls! (.22 over/.410 under - not a light-weight gun!) This year started my son on it.

Later years, I picked up a .410 pump. This is a light-weight gun. Really nice for a day afield.

I wouldn't hesitate to pick up a double .410. There's definitely a place for these guns!
