Re: 500 mossberg combo

Several versions of Mossie 500s in combo packages. Pretty decent shotguns for little money. I have two, both in 12ga. Bought a synthetic-stocked combo some years ago when Dunham's had them on sale.

24" rifled slug barrel w/cantilever scope mount; some cheesy little scope that I replaced and a 28" vent rib shotgun barrel w/Accu-choke tubes.

My older M500 is a 20" barrel, vent rib, also takes choke tubes. Also have a smooth bore slug barrel for it. Never a problem over the past 30 years with that old devil.

Re: 500 mossberg combo

I've had my 500 25 years and have the same set up that DennyF has. 20" Turkey barrel and a 24" smooth bore slug barrel. I have since replaced the slug barrel for a rifled barrel about 10 years ago. I have killed many turkeys and deer. No problems what so ever! A very reliable and accurate shotgun!!!

Re: 500 mossberg combo

I have the 12 ga combo with the cantilevered rifle barrel, and the 28" field barrel. Mine also has the interchangable comb on the stock. I got an open sighted rifle barrel for it too.

I have no complaints what so ever except the finish has turned a milky white where you hold the gun.

Re: 500 mossberg combo

Glad to hear this! I've managed to borrow one from my Brother in Law for turkey, it's a camo 3" w/ front and peep sights, full & extra full chokes and a sling...

Re: 500 mossberg combo

i love my mossy. it's never failed to fire, failed to eject, it goes bang when i pull the trigger. it's been dropped in snow, mud, creeks, the action is not as tight as the remington 870 and does not feel as smooth at first, but after a few hundred rounds they smooth up a little. the trigger has always been an issue with them. I did some filing and polishing work on my trigger group and it's not bad at all. the new ones come with mossbergs new trigger group and it's a full blown rifle trigger on a slug gun...very nice feeling IMO. handled one at Dicks a couple weeks ago again and i'm amazed for a shotgun trigger. it's easy to take apart and clean completely, and like I said...it takes a good beating and keeps on going.
