1187 barrel question?

My wife bought me a new Rem 1187 Premier back between 1986 and 1991. It has a 30" barrel and I want to convert it to a turkey gun for my son and replace the barrel with a shorter 26". Question is ..what barrel will fit it? I know from what I read an 1100 barrel won't but I am seeing light contour, sp, premier and some that are listed as I guess standard? Sent this question to Remington but have yet to hear from them. Thanks

Re: 1187 barrel question?

Call or email Mark Bansner, he does not do turkey guns anymore but years back there was none better, and I am sure he can lead you in the right direction. I had two rem pumps done by him.

Re: 1187 barrel question?

I have a few barrels for my 1187, all made by remington, but hastings also makes replacement barels. I have the standard 28" barrel, the light contour 26" barrel, a 21" smothbore with chokes and sights, for either turkey or buckshot hunting, a 21" cantilever rifled slug barrel with bushnell trophy scope, which is very accurate at 100 yds. using lightfield slugs. I believe Cabela's and Bass Pro sell all of these barrels, but they are not cheap. A cantilever rifled deer barrel will be in the 200.00 range.
