Catching Brass?

I bought a 1911 and haven,t shot it yet and was wonderin on how you guys catch your flyin brass?I,ll be shootin it in our field and don,t want to loose it in the grass.I heard they really spit out the brass and can go in different directions and pretty far.Probably need a large tarp but heard of guys using a type of trap box to catch flyin brass.

Re: Catching Brass?

I buy cheap tarps from Harbor Freight. I usually get the 6' x 8'. I lay them on the ground next to the bench or where I'm shooting.

When I'm done I pick it up by the sides with the shells in the middle.

Re: Catching Brass?

BTW they also have shell catchers you can buy. They sit on a stand next to you when shooting. Brownell's has them.

Re: Catching Brass?

I use a tarp that gets most but not all...then go over with metal detector and that usually gets the rest. A very few just disappear.

Re: Catching Brass?

I'll try and find a picture, but I saw a video of a guy who built a trap.

Essentially, is was a large hoop made out of PVC, then a large mesh type bag was secured to the hoop.
