Savage 220 20 gauge slug compact

Anyone own or have experience with this slug gun?? After many months of doing research I think I am going with the Savage. I like the compact but may get the standard size. Any input positive and/or negative is appreciated.

Re: Savage 220 20 gauge slug compact

I bought full-sized used one off a member last year because my son is planning an out-of-state hunt this year. I own several Savage rifles and it handles and shoots like any Savage centerfire rifle and that's a very good thing. I found a Nikon Slugster 3-9x40BDC scope for it. It is light and incredibly accurate with Remington Accutips (I have it sighted in with 2 3/4" loads.) It's a very accurate gun with a tang safety and a cushy recoil pad that really softens recoil to the point that it is very pleasant to shoot. I am very impressed with how it handles and shoots but it has not yet been hunted. I see no negatives in this gun.

The older I get, the stronger gravity becomes.

Re: Savage 220 20 gauge slug compact

If I am not mistaken we spoke a short while ago about the encore in 20 gauge. When we spoke the savage didn't come up but I also have a 220 black synthetic with a 3x9 Nikon a almost exact set up. I would be shocked if you were not thrilled with that weapon , it also seems to like the accu-tip ammo. I live and hunt in Allegheny county and the encore and savage 220 are the only slug guns that I own.

You are not mistaken....We talked about the Encore recently in the slug variety. After more research I think the Savage 220 May serve my needs better. I have 5 Encore rifles and love them BUT think the 220 may be a better fit.
Is your 220 a compact???
Thanks for all the help.....

Thanks for the input......I was away on business this week and found 2 boxes of the Remington Accutips in 20 gauge and bought them both being I hear they perform very well in the 220's.
Thanks again for the help

No, mine is the full size but I would be surprised if the compact did not perform the same.

This exactly....I have the same scope and use the same ammo. A dream to shoot.
