Ammo suggestions

For long time I have been trying to convince my wife that we should probably invest in some home protection and recreational shooting handguns. I got her to shoot my .22 rifle and the seed was sewn. She really enjoyed shooting.
Fast forward to this past weekend and we jumped in. She ordered a Ruger LCP .380 and I purchased a S&W M&P 40. I am looking for suggestions for reasonably priced "plinking" rounds that we can count on to hold a consistent pattern.

Re: Ammo suggestions

Winchester white box is what I reached for before I started hand loading everything. Federals American Eagle is also a good choice. You'll find out that in most cases the .380 will be more pricey than the 40 S&W. PMC is good and each box seems about the same price. Your wife LCP has a shorter barrel, I would keep the target close 5 to 7 yards for a new pistol shooter. To build confidence and to teach proper technique. Nice job getting a new shooter started!!!!

Re: Ammo suggestions

Thanks, Gunjack! I plan on reloading as well, but for now I need to build up the brass reserves while still getting the practice and fun in.

Re: Ammo suggestions

Whats great is 40 brass is cheap and plentiful, .380 is not so much. I like berrys bullets for bulk range play and I run bullseye for powder.

Re: Ammo suggestions

For my 40 and 9 reloads, I go on amazon and usually pick up 1000 once fired cases anywhere from 25 to 35 bucks.
