Scope for .44 mag

I bought a Super redhawk .44 that i want to set up for deer. Ive never looked at handgun scopes before so im not sure where to start with size, power, brand, etc. I know its mostly personal preference with that stuff but I just wanted to see what other people like and recommend. Thanks for any info

Re: Scope for .44 mag

I use the Leupold 2 1/2X8 handgun scope on both of my S&W 44 mags. I also use the Leupold bases with the Leupold duel dovetail rings. Doc in Pa.

Re: Scope for .44 mag

My SRH has been wearing a Bushnell 2-6x Trophy scope for over 20 years. Great scope. Actually, I'm getting a 14" .44 Mag barrel for my T/C Contender frame and will be getting another Bushnell Trophy scope to mount on that barrel.

Re: Scope for .44 mag

I have a Burris 2X scope on my Ruger Redhawk. This has worked for me for the past 15yrs.

Re: Scope for .44 mag

I've had great luck with Leupold, Burris, and Nikon scopes on my handguns. My longer barreled FA 454 wears a fixed 2x Leupold. My T/C Encore 454 wears a fixed 2x Burris. Both of those scopes have survived many heavy loads of 454. My only 44, a 6" S&W 629, wears a fixed Burris 2x. I have a custom SSK 15" Encore barrel in 338 Win Mag that wears a Leupold 2.5x8. It's been on there for years in JD Jones' T'SOB mount without a hitch. Some of my other handgun variables that I really like are Burris' 2x7 and 3x9 (the 3x9 sits on a 15" T/C 223 and takes whistle pigs out to 250 yards when I do my part...), and Nikon's 1.5x4.5 and 2.5x8.

As with any optics, you get what you pay for... If you're going to drop close to a grand on a quality handgun, do right by yourself and get a quality scope.

For me personally, I like a fixed low powered scope on my revolvers and short barreled handgun cartridge fed single shots. I'm not usually shooting them at long ranges, and I like ease of sight acquisition of the 2x. I also think they are a little sturdier on he heavy recoilers than the variable scopes (although that Leupold 2.5x8 has done well on the SSK 338 Win Mag...).

Have fun with the research and shopping process!

Re: Scope for .44 mag

I like the 2-6x scopes. I can crank them up to 6x for use at the range, but I keep them set at 2x when hunting.

I use the 2.5x8 Leupold VX3 on my Ragging Bull. It is set in steel Millet Rings. My dad always used a 4x Bushnell on his Dan Wesson but it Is 357.

Re: Scope for .44 mag

I just bought a S&W 629-3 and mounted a 2X Burris scope on it for hunting. I used Leupold base and rings for the Burris scope. The scope and rings from a silver perspective isn't an exact match but looks nice together. Haven't shot it yet but the scope is crystal clear and looks nice on my 629.
