Super blackhawk shooting high

I bought a super Blackhawk in 44mag with 5.5" barrel a couple months ago.The gun is shooting about 6" high at 25 yards with 240gr xtp's.I did my internet research and found that it's a common problem but usually with a little heavier bullets.I have the back sight bottomed all the way down so I called Ruger to see if they could send me a higher front sight. The guy admitted that it's a common problem but they don't offer a higher front sight blade.I never heard of anything so stupid.I think I found one at Brownells that might work but geez.

Re: Super blackhawk shooting high

I have a similar situation with my Super RedHawk. I found that the best thing for me to do was to adjust my hold relative to the target. Same sight picture and sight alignment but a lower hold point. I only use the gun for target shooting and I think if I were hunting with it I would need to have it scoped. That lower hold point in a hunting situation would not work for me.

Good night Chesty, wherever you are......

I dropped down to the 200gr XTP's in my SBH because it was shooting high with the 240's too.

Re: Super blackhawk shooting high

I can do that but when you spend around 600 bucks on a gun,you should be able to sight it in.Even worse,Ruger is aware of the issue and hasn't taken steps to fix such a simple problem.

I would call back again. I have spoken with one customer service person at a business that was unhelpful. I gave it a week and called back and got helped. You could ask then to cover the price of a replacement after market front sight. 240 is the average weight, it shouldn't be an issue.

I am not familiar with the SBH but I suggest you call Brownell's and talk to one of their gunsmiths. If there is a replacement front sight or another solution they will know about it.

They are great folks to deal with.

Re: Super blackhawk shooting high

I did call trice. The first person had everything she needed but couldn't tell me if they had a replacement sight unless I gave her the serial number.Yesterday I called back, spoke with two other people and while trying to be helpful, they were clueless.

I did find a replacement blade at brownells for a .45 Blackhawk that appears to be a little higher. They had another one, higher yet but were out of stock.

DCE

Are those sights pinned in or in a dovetail?

If you get a high one you can file it down if too high.

Re: Super blackhawk shooting high

Have 7 1/2" stainless SBH.

Won't shoot to POA with anything 240 gr or more. Shoots way high. It's the grip angle that contributes to muzzle flip and throws heavy bullets high, I think.

It shoots 200 Sierra's fantastic.
