I was out for my 3rd season with my S & W model 629 topped with 2x Pentax scope. I shot my buck at 15 feet. I primarily am an archery hunter but I feel a handgun is just the same if not more of a challenge than a bow. I hunted an area so thick no rifle hunter would even consider being in a spot with only a 20 yard shot. I double lunged him using a 240 JSP and he ran about 80 yards. Since I was in the middle of the gamelands I decided for the evening hunt to just stay close to the truck-about 35 yards away from the parking lot. There was nobody around. 15 minutes into my afternoon hunt he crossed the road and headed straight for my tree. I stopped him with a mouth bleat and like remote control he turned broadside and froze with front hoof in the air. I will tell you at 15 feet all you see is hair through the scope. It all happened so fast but I remember watching the little hole the bullet made as it hit him. I knew I made a good shot.
