9mm ammo question

A friend and I just bought 9mm pistols for us and our boys to shoot at our club. Would somebody recommend a reasonably priced and reliable round for target shooting? We are looking to buy in bulk. We both bought a Taurus 24/7 G2. Thank you in advance.

Re: 9mm ammo question

Some 9mm pistols like a 124 grain and have problems with a 115 grain, can't say if yours is one, do some research.

Re: 9mm ammo question

Any of the FMJ offerings from Federal (American Eagle), Winchester, Remington (UMC), CCI (Blazer) make good target ammo. I shoot mostly brass cased, but would shoot the aluminum cased stuff if saving brass is not a concern. You will find that the majority of the bulk stuff on the shelf will be 115 grain.

Re: 9mm ammo question

Walmart is pretty good on prices. I was just at the one in Washington, Pa and they had aluminum cased Federal 115 FMJ for 10 bucks per 50. If you can get free or flat rate shipping, online is also a option.

Freedom Munitions is offering free UPS on first time orders. They offer new and re-manufactured ammo. Don't let the re-manufactured scare you, it's great stuff.

Re: 9mm ammo question

I usually buy it at my local gun shops. I just in and check out their supply, which lately has been good.

Re: 9mm ammo question

My wife and I have been shooting in a couple IDPA leagues over the past 5+ years. We've went through bulk Remington, Winchester, Federal, American Eagle, Blazer (brass & aluminum), PPU, Aguila & Geco

Of those; I'm a fan of the 124 grain FMJ rounds manufactured by Dynamit Nobel (Sweden) under the brand name GECO. I've found them to be of great quality and they are very accurate in all my 9mm handguns. I've only ever purchased them through online retailers.

Coming in a close second are the American Eagle, CCI Blazers and Aguila. All three shot well in a particular handgun, but not in all of them. It was just a matter of only using them with the gun they liked.

The Remington and Winchester bulk ammo was decent for plinking, but not great for accuracy. The worst I've encountered is the Federal Range & Target. They don't shoot worth a darn out of any of my handguns.

Re: 9mm ammo question

I found this while looking for the Freedom ammo. It is originally from 5/14 but updated as of this month. I didn't read the whole artice but you guys that use it may want to. I felt it was important to share. It appears to discuss a past safety/possible gun damage issue. Thank you all for the replies.
