870 20 ga slug gun

Just bought a used 870 express 20 ga it's drilled and tapped I put my Nikon prostaff 3-9x40 on it. It has the rifled 20 inch barrel with iron sights. Shot it today at range, Hornady sst didn't really worry about getting the best possible groups. I was impressed at 100 yds I was shooting 3-4 inch groups with lil work. Exited for Friday, hope to shoot a doe, gonna field hunt with my Caldwell deadshot field pod. Any input in shells, barrels, scopes?! Thought about maybe getting a Hastings 24 inch barrel for next year

Leupold 2-7x Shotgun/Muzzleloader scope.
I just ordered a 870 Express Compact with a 20 guage slug barrel and am putting that scope on it. I have a few of them scopes and really like them. I have seen them for $199.
Good luck

You should be fine with the barrel you have.
The Hastings barrels are very good but be prepared to shell out some dough.
I just started shooting the Rottweil Lazer plus Sabot Slugs.
in 12 Ga. 2 3/4" Magnum.
Best grouping slug I have shot out of my 1100 Slug Gun.
They are available in 20 Ga. and can be ordered from Slugs R Us.
They punch a nickel size hole or better in the target.
Just hope to get a shot at a doe in the late season, I'm sure the results will be Devastating.

Re: 870 20 ga slug gun

I had a 2 X 7 X 32 on my slug gun.
I switched to a 3 X 9 by 40 to get a wider field of view.
Just throwing out some intangibles for ya.
