20 Gauge Slug Gun

Looking for some input on a 20 guage slug gun. I am looking at the Remington 870 Express compact. I will be using it for bear and deer drives. Any thoughts on the 20 vs 12. I am trying to stay away from the recoil of the 12 guage.
Any input is appreciated.

Re: 20 Gauge Slug Gun

I love my 20 ga 870 Express over my 12. Anything the bigger one can do so can the 20. The only critters in Pa I haven't taken with mine are bear, elk, and coyote. But I've never hunted for them either.

Re: 20 Gauge Slug Gun

I have the H&R ultra slugger in 20 gauge. It shoots nice but it becomes quite heavy if you lug it around all day.I'm going to sell it and buy the Savage model 220 slug gun.My friends all have them and they shoot beautiful and are a lot lighter than the H&R.

Re: 20 Gauge Slug Gun

I have a Mossberg/New Haven 500c 20 gauge that I've made into a slugger. I have a 3x9 mounted on the cantilever barrel. I'd probably prefer a 2-7 but I had the 3x9 so it went on it. I redid the stock and hunt both bear and deer with mine. No deer has had issues with it yet and tend to drop fairly quickly, bear haven't had a chance to show me what they think of it yet.

Hi. Just curious. When you say Mossberg/New Have are you referring to that they aren`t made there anymore? If so I didn`t know that. I have bought a Mossberg since the 80`s. Thank you.

Re: 20 Gauge Slug Gun

savage 220f....most accurate/affordable slug gun on the market today. I cloverleaf (3 shots touching) at 100yds off of a bench. Get it you won't regret it.

Re: 20 Gauge Slug Gun

Savage 220 topped with a leupold 3x9 shooting Remington 3 inch accura tips I can shoot out a ace of spades at 100 yards, that saying still gun would not be my first choice on a bear drive I would go in a shorter barreled pump gun , just my two cents
