Savage 220?

Does anyone use the Savage 220 for deer hunting? I just recently bought one and haven't been able to get the accuracy that they claim using the Remington accutips. It gets very expensive sighting in. Are the Federal expanders a better choice? Thanks in advance, JimR

Re: Savage 220?

If you are not shooting the 3" accutips, try the 3" that is my bro shoots.
And the Federal Expanders are also a good choice, again in the 3"...

On a side note, make sure your scope is solid and not moving on ya.

We only use Leupold scopes on all our guns, especially on the inlines and shotguns. They take a licking and keep on ticking....

Re: Savage 220?

What kind of accuracy are you getting?

I use 2.75" Accutips. They shoot tight in mine. I did have one box 3" Accutips but they are all gone. The 3" are hard to get so I stocked up on the 2.75". There is no deer that is going to know the difference.

I have used the 3" Federals with the Barnes bullet. They shot great.

I have tried the Hornady rounds but they did not shoot good.

There are a lot of guys over on Shotgunworld who shoot the 220. Check out the slug section. There is a lot of info.

There are two ways to be fooled. One is to believe what isn't true; the other is to refuse to believe what is true.

Since you just bought the gun, I assume you know to clean the bore from packing grease. I only say this because you'd be surprised how many folks don't know to do this.

What kind of groups are you getting?
