Mossberg 835

I have a mossberg 835 that i am thinking about taking bear hunting. It does not have a rifles barrel. Do any of you guys have experience shooting slugs with a smooth bore? Just wondering. Thanks.

Re: Mossberg 835

Shooting a smoothbore with slugs is like throwing rocks. But seriously I'd keep my shots very close, inside 50yds. Fire a couple rounds to check accuracy. My guess it won't be very good.

If it has screw-in choke tubes I thought you shouldn't shoot slugs out of them? Maybe just something started to get people to buy slug barrels?

They do make rifled choke tubes but I don't believe they add to accuracy much.

Re: Mossberg 835

Every mossberg 835 smoothbore barrel that I've ever seen says 'do not use with slugs' because they are backbored/overbored and the slug could wiggle and get hung up in the barrel.

EDIT- I have however, knocked down two bucks in their tracks with a rifled slug out of a smoothbore barrel in my winchester sx2 semi auto, both high shoulder shots.
