New shotshell pressures?

Just wondering if the new shells with more shot and less powder have a lower pressure. Federal didn't list for turkey thugs. Any ideas?

They should be fine in any modern shotgun I would think.

I agree on new guns but thinking of older. stronger made ones. Like a Savage 220.a 3" shell fits.

The 220 is not an old gun. OLD is anything made prior to the advent of modern, plastic hulled, smokeless powder shells and the 220 is certainly not that old. It like any other modern shotgun will handle any load you feed it that it's chambered for.

Re: New shotshell pressures?

Most semi-auto shotguns are designed to operate within a certain set of parameters. If Federal markets a shot shell it would be designed to operate within those same parameters to be compatable with semi auto SGs. Based on that assumption it would be safe to use the newer Federal shells in any modern shotgun.

There are two ways to be fooled. One is to believe what isn't true; the other is to refuse to believe what is true.

Re: New shotshell pressures?

The 220 is a rifled barrel slug gun though. It'll handle any modern round you choose to feed it. Not sure why you referenced the turkey thugs and then a slug gun though I can't imagine neither would be very effective with either.

Re: New shotshell pressures?

Original Savage 220 is a single shot shotgun made from 1935 to 1956 I believe. Some, like mine were combo guns that came with a rifle barrel. Hence your confusion.

Oh THAT 220! Lol. Yup. They were made around wwII era. My old man had one in 12 and one in .410. Can't count the number of bunnies I killed with that little 410. Good strong, simple, utilitarian shotguns!
