SxS question

Why when a SxS listed for sale does it sometimes describe the top lever to the right? Is that desirable or does it indicate a problem?

Re: SxS question

It's what you want. Top lever slightly to the right. That is the position of the top lever on almost every SxS from new.

Re: SxS question

the top lever will move to the center of the receiver as the locking lug wears & the action then starts to become loose when closed.
so when a gun is advertised as having the lever to the right it should be a well locked up action when closed.

Re: SxS question

As stated above. Some are made very very to the right, often looking odd. They take decades of wear and tear to come to center, and they still work fine. In the case of a very valueable gun, a professional shop can " set back" the barrels and refit them to as new condition, with the lever again to the right, but that is a very expensive job.

Re: SxS question

Thanks for the replies. I was under the impression it was desirable for the lever to be slightly to the right but never knew why.

Re: SxS question

Desirable is more to the right than slightly.
