Last fall I bought an Iver Johnson Target Sealed 8 for my trapline. It has a removable cylinder, and to take the cylinder out and load it, you have to put the hammer at half cock position. This weekend i was shooting it and when we were wrapping up, it would stay half cocked. I don't why it is doing this, and was wondering anybody can offer a some insight into my problem. Is it a problem I can fix myself or do I need to take it to a gunsmith?

Did you read the owners manual and see if there is something in it regarding that. Did you shoot it before this weekend? maybe the hammer is supposed to stay at half coock if the cylinder is not put in properly.

OK, sounds like you have a worn sear in your op it sounded like the hammer would not drop at all. There are parts available for those guns. I would not want to do that myself because done wrong the gun will be unsafe. I would take it ro a good gunsmith.
