Did I buy the wrong choke

Borrowed a 870 12 ga for Turkey season and bought a XFull Rem choke. This is my first experience with chokes always had SXS with fixed chokes. My question is when I screw the choke in it extends past the end of the barrel about an inch. Is this right. Thanks
Bill

Re: Did I buy the wrong choke

No real advantage but most of the extended turkey chokes are ported which will help save your shoulder shooting heavy turkey loads.

The advantage to an extended tube is that there can be a more gradual constriction over a greater distance and, in dome cases, a parallel section for the shot charge to situate itself before exiting the muzzle. An extended tube also leaves the option for porting which can reduce recoil a little and help slow and strip the wad from the shot string.
