What is the procedure to get a license to carry a firearm?

Re: Gun permit question

Cost may be more, as it still varies from one sheriff to the next. There was another move in the legislature this year, to make all sheriffs' departments conform to the same procedures and fees. Haven't heard much about it lately?

They will do a background check, which also varies a bit, both in scope and in the time it takes for them to get back to you, to procede with the application and approval. Most now issue "photo ID cards" for the LTCF. Our sheriff has always issued them with a photo, plus they're laminated.

Best wishes.

Re: Gun permit question

We have a "new" sheriff in Cumberland County and my current permit was issued under the former one (Tom Kline), so don't know if anything has changed, or not?

Court House in Carlisle is fairly easy to find a parking space near, on one of the surrounding streets. They can take your picture at the counter, where you get the application. Think my last one was around $30 or $35, picture included?

A valid License to Carry Firearms eliminates the need for a Sportsman's Permit.
